In the Bible, especially the Apostle Paul’s letters to groups of followers of Christ in various cities he is reminding the readers to leave behind the old ways and to stop identifying in who they “were”. He consistently reminds them of who they “are” now that they have made themselves followers of The Gospel as part of their new identity. Unfortunately, we still see the same identity struggle today of who we once “were” vs. who we are.
