The city of Corinth was engaged in idolatry big time. There were also several pagan temples in the city and each one was quite popular. You can see why the apostle Paul felt it was so important to get the message of Christ to these people that their hopes shouldn’t be placed in things made by the hands of men, but rather in the hands of the One who made men. We’re about to learn that Christian liberty doesn’t include the freedom to sin.
