Jesus commands that we love our neighbors as ourselves. But he also told his disciples, "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple." You can know something about a person, their biography, greatest achievements, famous sayings...but still be a stranger to them. Real relationships require something more. Presence. Pursuit. A genuine willingness to close the distance.
